What to do if you want to change your iCloud account? Is it possible to log out from the existing iCloud account if you want to add a new one instead? The iCloud account can be changed from your Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, MacBook etc. We will take a look at the simplest way of changing your iCloud account using your mobile device.

Change iCloud account using the iPhone/iPad

Follow these steps

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad.
  2. You Apple ID will be displayed on top. Tap on your Apple ID.
  3. Scroll down the screen to see the Sign Out option in the end.
  4. Tap on Sign Out.
  5. A popup box will appear for confirmation, enter your Apple ID password here.
  6. Tap Turn Off.


At this stage, you are signing off on your existing iCloud account. Which means you may lose all the data you have on your iPhone. The iPhone provides you with the option to retain or delete your existing data.

You can choose to retain copies of your old iCloud data. The contacts, reminders, notes etc. on your phone can be retained if you click on the button corresponding to the individual app name and choose ‘On’ option. You can delete all the data associated with your old iCloud account by choosing the option ‘Off’ corresponding to each individual app name

Once you click on Sign Out, your phone will sign out from the current iCloud account associated with your iPhone. If you chose Off in the above option, all the data will be removed. You can now add a different iCloud account to your iPhone.

Follow these steps

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad.
  2. Tap Sign in, to add a new iCloud account.
  3. Choose ‘Don’t have an Apple ID or forgot it’ if you want to create a new iCloud account.
  4. Enter your new Apple ID, if you already have one.
  5. Enter the password of the new Apple ID and tap on Sign in.
  6. Enter the device’s passcode to proceed. The passcode is same as your phone lock passcode.
  7. Tap Merge if you want to merge your device data, like contacts, reminders, notes etc. else tap on Don’t Merge.
  8. The new iCloud account is added to your iPhone.
  9. Tap iCloud to choose the data which you want to store on the iCloud. All the options selected here will be synchronized with your Apple devices.


The iCloud is a very powerful service that helps you in having access to all your data across Apple devices. You can start typing something on your iPhone and continue that on your MacBook. This makes the iCloud a very important service for productivity. Changing your iCloud account is a process that may possibly cause you to lose your original data.
